I was teaching a class last week on blogging without overwhelm, which was surprisingly well-received given that artists often run the other way when I try to tell them that starting a blog would help them.

And then here I was, in the middle of designing a client's website while preparing classes for the Beach Geek Retreat Week, when I though "yikes, it's time for a blog post!"

Fortunately, my ArtDates student, Jacqi Schecter, a local Asheville photographer, was paying attention during the blogging module of ArtDates, and sent me her simple blog post for publication... just in the nick of time! (and congratulations on the award, Jacqi!)
I enjoy looking for special moments of spontaneous joy or scary fun at carnivals, and the swings ride always provides wonderful photo-ops.

My "Flying High" photo from the 2011 WNC State Fair recently won a 2nd Place/Award of Merit prize in the 7th Annual Black and White Spider Awards competition out of England (3000+ entries). This photo is showing at the Black Mountain (NC) Center for the Arts gallery through August.
With the setting sun behind them, children were yelling and laughing while walking on a bouncing platform and holding onto nets at the sides -- nice example of scary-fun as they did it over and over.

This "Walking on Air" photo was also designated a Nominee for an award in the same 7th Annual Black and White Spider Awards competition. Click here for more photos from State Fairs in North Carolina.
